BALLET FOR NON-DANCERS (THE DRAWING WORKSHOP)
with Mya Cavner & Edith Liben
Tuesday, 1 October
6.30-8.30pm
In this workshop, we invite you to join us on the studio floor to let your body become the pencil. Together, let’s create a dance on paper. To warm up, we will enter the world of ballet for Non - Dancers through a series of observational drawings inspired by a custom tableau from the duo. Edith and Mya will guide you through a series of exercises drawing on their childhood favourite, Twister, to create a large-scale collaborative drawing. Come to this workshop prepared to challenge your notions of what it means to be a dancer and be ready to make art with your whole body.
Bios:
Mya Cavner and Edith Liben are a South-London based artist duo, recontextualising who can call themselves a dancer. They believe if you have a body you are a dancer. Mya is Chicago raised and London based curator exploring spatial narratives at the intersections of Black social histories, archives and design. Edith is a visual artist and anthropologist whose practice is rooted in documenting identity and emotion. Together, they use subculture as a tool in workshops, publications and exhibitions to create new community spaces for movement, play and experimentation.
